IPOH: The Sultan of Perak has paid tribute to the late Tan Sri Yuen Yuet Leng, saying the nation has lost a patriotic son.
In a press release issued from his office on Friday, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah expressed his condolences to Yuen's wife, Puan Sri Chan Choy May, and his family, praising him for his services to the country.
"We are deeply saddened by the loss of Tan Sri Yuen Yuet Leng who was born in Larut Matang, Perak.
"Our beloved nation has lost a patriotic son who had served his King and country with distinction," he said.
"Please accept our deepest condolences. May you and your family be granted serenity and peace during this period of grief," he added.
Yuen, 88, passed away on Thursday from heart failure. He leaves behind Chan and two daughters.
Yuen was a former Special Branch officer who was involved with the historic Haadyai Peace Accord of 1990.
He was a former Perak police chief and was once shot in the chest by communists in 1951.-sumber
